NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers tennis teams will play their final fall tournament next week when they take part in the UWF Fall Fling on the weekend of Nov. 5. It will be the second trip for both the men's and women's team to the Florida panhandle.
The men's team dominated the scoreboard in their first tournament at West Florida. Separated into three different flights, the three squads took the top three spots overall on the leaderboard for the weekend.
It was a successful debut for several Privateers.
Matthew Armbruster,
David Tesic and
Dhruv Tangri all made their Privateer debuts. The duo of
Espen Lagarde and
Marcel Volz took the top spot overall with a 15-6 record in sets.
The men's team features two all-conference selections who return this season in Volz and
Max Heinzel. Volz was the Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year last season.
Ank Vullings,
Estelle Vanthier and
Salma Abdelrahim constructed the highest finishing women's team in the first weekend. Vullings and Abdelrahim each won their singles debuts after putting together seasons that earned them both all-conference recognition in the spring.
Lina Hohnhold,
Mar Gendra and
Lea Alguacil made up a team that finished with eight of 13 sets won. Hohnhold is the reigning Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year.
The women's team has seven returners on a team that won a share of the Southland regular season title in 2021.
The Privateers' spring schedule will be released at a later date.
