TURNING THE RECORD BOOK GREEN
Veteran
Troy Green returns for his fifth season of collegiate ball as the senior from St. Rose, La. will end his career with his name etched all over the UNO record book. Green is third in UNO history in made free throws (378), fifth in steals (135), sixth in games played (121), eighth in assists (317) and tenth overall in points (1,332). Green will need just eight games played this season to take over first-place in program history in career games played. He also trails the two student-athletes tied for sixth place in points by just 26.
>> GREEN WATCH
To build off of what was mentioned above, the watch is on for Green as he can:
- Move into ninth all-time in scoring with 14 points...eighth all-time with 24 points...and move into a tie for sixth in school history with 26 points scored.
- 21 made free throws from taking over second in program history
- 37 assists from moving into seventh all-time in UNO history
- 12 steals away from moving into fourth-place all-time (moved into sole possession of fifth-place last game with two steals against Spring Hill)
- Eight appearances away for most games played by a student-athlete in program history
RETURN OF THE SAINT
New Orleans graduate student
Derek St. Hilaire will return for his second season on the Lakefront after he made a huge impact during the 2020-21 campaign. St. Hilaire averaged 12.3 points and shot 40.1 percent from three-point range with 2.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 25 games. Pursuing a masters in higher education, St. Hilaire chose to return to New Orleans after the NCAA's decision to not charge a year of eligibility for the 2020-21 basketball season. His 2.3 three-pointers made per game ranked sixth overall in the Southland a year ago.
In the opening two games for the Privateers, St. Hilaire is second in the Southland Conference in scoring (19.0 PPG), fourth in field goal percentage (.577) and eighth in three-point percentage (.417). He has put up this outstanding numbers in just 24.0 minutes per contest. St. Hilaire dropped 21 points against Ole Miss (his third 20-plus point game of his UNO career) on 9-of-15 shooting in the season-opener and followed it up with 17 in a win over Spring Hill this past Saturday. With the back-to-back double-digit games to open the year, St. Hilaire has now reached 10-plus points in each of his past five games, dating back to last season. The Atlanta, Georgia native is also sixth in the Southland with 2.5 made three-pointers per game. With the strong opening week, St. Hilaire picked up a Southland Conference Player of the Week honorable mention.
LOOKING FOR HISTORY IN THE WINDY CITY
The New Orleans men's basketball program is looking for its first win over Northwestern, and its first win in Chicago, in school history. Entering tonight, the Privateers are 0-4 against the Wildcats, including three straight losses under head coach
Mark Slessinger. The Big Ten power has outscored New Orleans by a 320-218 margin in the four combined contests throughout their respective history.
TOUR OF CHICAGO
The Privateers arrived in Chicago on Monday, and made sure to take in the sights with their limited time in the city. Stops for the team included the world-famous Willis Tower and a favorite lunch spot of Barack Obama, Valois Cafeteria.
