BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans cross country program got its much anticipated 2021 season underway with second-place performances by both the men's and women's teams as the Privateers opened the year with the LSU Invitational at the University Center in Baton Rouge on Friday.

NOTABLES

Kolyn Saltzman paced the Privateers in the men's 6K as he raced to a fourth-place finish with a new personal best time of 19:18.15. The mark goes down as the fastest recorded by a UNO male student-athlete at the distance in school history.
- A Southland Conference 800-meter gold medalist on the track,
Alec Snell made his return to cross country after a year away from the sport and in turn ran to a sixth-place finish with a new personal record of 19:39.42.

Cade Litolff made it three Privateers in the top-10 as he placed eighth overall at 19:52.44, another new personal record.
- New Orleans went on to slot eight into the top-20 in total as
Kristian Oatman (14th/20:07.62) and
Jaden Forester (15th/20:19.29) rounded out the scoring attack. They were followed closely behind by
Jose Rodriguez (17th/20:24.07),
Alex Soileau (18th/20:27.25) and
Gary Sandrock (20th/20:38.04).
- Every single male Privateer that raced today set a new collegiate personal best for the 6K distance.
- Not to be overshadowed, the women's performance was just as strong as
Ariana Jimenez paced the Privateers with her fourth-place finish as she set a new personal best of 19:01.03 over the 5K course.
- Newcomer
Alexandra Weir stepped onto the UNO scene in a big way as she claimed sixth overall with a mark of 19:51.16. It was her first race in a UNO uniform after she joined the group from USF this summer.
- Returners
Anna Martin and
Allie Louis showed they can continue to add to the scoring depth as they finished 14th (20:41.79) and 17th (21:00.96), respectively.
- In her first collegiate race, freshman
Ansley Long broke through in 21st overall with a time of 21:19.91 to round out the Privateer scoring.

Jade Talazac (25th/21:56.85) and
Michelle Folk (27th/22:28.68) made up the rest of UNO's top-seven on the women's side.
- The men's 40 points trailed meet winner LSU by 19 while the women trailed the first-place Tigers by 30.
- It was the first meet of the season for the New Orleans cross country program. The Privateers were suppose to open the year with their own New Orleans Invitational at Lake Oaks Park, but the event was canceled due to the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.

NEXT UP
Both the men's and women's squads will get to race in one of the best meets of the NCAA Division I cross season as the Privateers will head to South Bend for Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1.
