NEW ORLEANS – All good things must come to an end as the New Orleans Privateers' (13-9, 6-1 Southland) nine-game winning streak came to a halt at the Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center on Saturday evening. UIW's Cardinals (5-19, 1-6 Southland) survived a valiant Privateer comeback attempt for the 78-70 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
RJ Glasper scored 22 of the first 27 Cardinal points sparking a 19-0 run to give UIW a commanding 27-9 lead just thirteen minutes into the first half. UNO trailed 38-27 at halftime, their fewest first half points since scoring 17 at Utah State back in December.
Slessinger squad kept fighting however,
Troy Green's jump shot cut it to 10 with 7:45 to play.
Derek St. Hilaire's step back jumper made it a six-point game, 65-59. A few possessions later Green sliced through traffic cutting the deficit to four with 4:28 to play.
After St. Hilaire's layup cut the Cardinal lead to just two points with 1:12 to play,
Jahmel Myers could only hit one-of-two free throws making the score 69-68 with just under a minute remaining.
Glasper, who finished with 34 points, knocked down a jump shot on and free throw on the other end sealing the game for the Cardinals.
