New Orleans Returns to the Lakefront to Host Lamar, HCU

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The New Orleans (3-9, 0-1 SLC) men's basketball program returns to Lakefront Arena after 17 days for its home conference season opener against Lamar (4-10, 0-1 SLC) Thursday night followed by HCU (4-10, 1-0 SLC) on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. against the Cardinals and 4 p.m. against the Huskies. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN + and NASH 106.1 FM with Jude Young and Tic Price calling the action.
 
Tomorrow's matchup marks the first time the Privateers face the Cardinals since January 2020. New Orleans loss the last meeting 62-57 against the Cardinals who left for the WAC before returning ahead of this season. New Orleans leads the all-time series 30-8.
 
Looking to win their first game of the year at home on the heels of a 101-96 OT loss against the Huskies to close out 2022, New Orleans has proven to be a team to watch from the three and the free-throw line. 
 
Their 39% from the arc tops the Southland and ranks them 12th in the country for three-point percentage. Last time on the hardwood, not only did the Privateers have four in double -figures but they broke the school record for highest three-point percentage in a game with .765 percent at 13-17. They also lead the SLC in FT attempts per game with 19.2. 
 
Jordan Johnson continues his reign over the SLC with the highest three-point percentage at 50.7%, good for #6 in the nation. He also leads the conference in points per game with 17.3, good 90th in the country.
 
Lamar dropped its conference opener 82-61 at McNeese. The Cardinals, shorthanded due in large part to injury, were 18-of-44 (.409) from the field but only made five three-pointers (.294). Cardinals true freshman Nate Calmese is the Southland top freshman scorer (15.1 ppg) and ranks among the nation's top-10 freshman scorers.
 
HCU, led by Bonke Maring's 24, had five players score at least 13 points in its overtime win over New Orleans.
