Privateers Fall to Islanders in Thursday Road Bout

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers could not overcome early runs to begin sets on the night as they lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-11) to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday at Dugan Wellness Center. For the Islanders, it moved their winning streak to six consecutive matches.
 
The Islanders started the night with a 7-2 spurt out of the gate. They never relented in the set and finished with a flourish after scoring 12 of the last 14 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had 12 kills as a team and the offensive attack was spread out evenly. Morgan Baese had four kills an four Islanders followed with two kills each.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi commenced a 7-0 run early in the second set to grow their set advantage to 11-3. The Privateers were left chasing the rest of the set. New Orleans leveled things off behind spurts from Sydney Gott (two kills, one block in five rallies) and Karen Cordero Barr (three kills in eight rallies).
 
However, the Islander finished the set in their favor behind six straight points and two aces to vault themselves to a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The third set saw the Islanders hit .560 to cap off the night. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had 16 kills to just two errors in 25 attempts while they limited the Privateers to six kills in the set. For the night, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hit .506 as a team.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Cordero and Courtney Roundtree co-led the squad in kills with six each. Gott finished with five kills in 10 attempts and added a solo block. Rita Zecchin led the way in digs with seven. Defne Eciroglu finished with 17 assists.
 
Leah Stolfus led the offense for the Islanders with 10 kills. Baese and Kyndal Payne each added nine kills. Belle Morgan finished with 33 assists.
