Privateers Inks Junior College Transfer Cedquavious Hunter to NLI

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's basketball team has announced the signing of junior college transfer Cedquavious "Dae Dae" Hunter to a National Letter of Intent for the program's class of 2024.

"Cedquavious will be one of the elite shooters this season in junior college. He had a solid freshman campaign at UC-Bakersfield and had several breakout games. Immediately when he came back close to home at Pearl River Community College, we made him a priority in that guard position, especially with the upcoming graduation of Jordan, Khaleb, and Kaleb we knew we would need an experienced guard who can play multiple spots," said Head Coach Mark Slessinger.

"Jordan's three point making ability is a priority for us to replace and that is where we knew Cedquavious would be a perfect fit.  He is a great competitor who comes from a great family in Como, MS and will compete for a national championship at one of the top junior college programs in the nation. We are excited to have him on the Lakefront."

Hunter (6-1, 180 lbs.) began his collegiate career last season at CSU Bakersfield under Head Coach Rod Barnes before transferring to Pearl River Community College to play for Head Coach Chris Oney.

Hunter appeared in 32 games, starting twice for the Roadrunners as a freshman. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game and hit a season-high 17 points (14 in second half) at Long Beach State on Mar. 2, 2023.

Just a couple games into the 2023-24 basketball season for the Pearl River Wildcats, Hunter has already consecutively scored in double-figures averaging 14.5 points per game.

"It [The University of New Orleans] felt like home when I went on my visit. Also, I love the offense they run. They like to play fast," said Hunter.

"It's the environment that really really makes New Orleans special to me. Who would not love New Orleans though?"

A 2022 graduate of North Panola High School in Sardis, Miss under Head Coach Christopher Yancy, Hunter led North Panola to the 2022 MHSAA State 3A semifinals, posting a 24-7 record along the way. Hunter averaged 24.1 points a game and scored 30+ points 13 times, while also hitting a career-high 55 points on Jan. 20, 2022, in a 107-54 win against Rosa Fort HS.

The Como, Miss., native is one of just 25 men named to MaxPreps.com's Small Town All-America Team, and he also gained valuable experience as a member of the Elite Amateur Basketball Club, founded by Coach Mike Couey.
