Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. - A shorthanded New Orleans men's basketball program (6-16, SLC 3-8) fought hard against UIW but could not overcome the second half deficit in a 78-70 loss that saw seven ties and eight lead changes Saturday evening at Lakefront arena.
The first half saw the Privateers outrebound the Cardinals 14-19 while picking up 9 offensive boards and 3 steals. New Orleans led through the first ten minutes 21-19 with two big threes from Daniel Sackey, and The Cardinals answered with a 14-9 run to tie the Privateers at 30.
Down one with four seconds left on the board, Tyson Jackson fought for the offensive rebound and made a layup to beat the halftime buzzer and secure the one-point lead 39-38.
The Privateers opened the first ten minutes of the second half at 4-of-15 and trailed the Cardinals 22-8, but in the final ten minutes, New Orleans went on a 23-18 run cutting a 15 deficit to eight.
Tyson Jackson led New Orleans with 16 points, and the Privateers outscored the Cardinals in the paint 36-26.
UP NEXT: The Privateers will make the short trip to Thibodaux next Thursday to take on Nicholls.
