James Glisson III Finalizes Privateers Recruiting Class

NEW ORLEANS, La. - New Orleans head men's basketball coach Mark Slessinger has announced the addition of graduate transfer forward, James Glisson III. Glisson comes to New Orleans with one year of eligibility remaining after a successful four-year career at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.

He received his bachelor's degree in communications in May from Mercer and will pursue a master's degree in higher education administration at New Orleans.

"We are ecstatic to add James to the Privateer family," said Coach Slessinger.

"He will add a ton of value to our team through his experience and leadership. He has a great skill set on both ends of the floor and will impact the game through his toughness, shot making, and versatility. James has had a great connection with the entire team and staff. We are looking forward to having him on campus and getting to work."

Glisson, a 6-7 forward, played 111 games throughout his four years at Mercer, starting in 58. He averaged 7.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 1.0 apg during his career, highlighted by a career-high 25 points in a 83-77 win over Georgia State Dec. 4, 2021. Glisson has scored in double figures 29 times in his career, including a 15 point and eight rebound performance against Samford last season.

"I am excited for the opportunity to play here at UNO," Glisson said. "I believe this season will be full of excitement for fans and people who love basketball as much as I do. I love how unique the city of New Orleans is with its different cultures, flavors, and sounds."

A native of Decatur, Ga., Glisson played at Southwest DeKalb High School where he finished with over 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 100 blocks, assists, and steals. There he also garnered 2019 5-AAAAA All-State First Team honors and was a two-time Region 5-AAAAA First Team selection in both 2018 and 2019.

In addition to being included in the DeKalb County Top 20 as a senior, Glisson III was the county's player of the month at the 5-AAAAA level for four consecutive months during the 2018 season. As a senior, he led Southwest DeKalb to the GHSA 5-AAAAA State Championship semifinals with a 24-7 overall record.
