NEW ORLEANS – On Halloween night at the place known as the Chamber of Horrors, it was the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks who came out on top of the New Orleans Privateers in a 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-8) decision.
The Ladyjacks hit .429 for the match and had 47 kills to the Privateers' 18 on the evening. Four different Stephen F. Austin players got in the kill column during the team's first six points of the first set.
New Orleans overcame a 4-0 deficit at the start of the second set to tie the score at 7-7. The Privateers continued to keep close tabs on Stephen F. Austin. A stint of three
Buse Kocakaya kills kept New Orleans within range as they trailed 18-15.
However, the Ladyjacks kicked into another gear and scored on seven of the next eight rallies to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Izabella Ortiz had three kills in that stretch for the road team.
The Privateers grabbed a brief lead at 4-3 after the first seven rallies of the third set. Two
Jaedyn Newman kills came in that stretch but Stephen F. Austin responded with a big run to put the set and match out of reach.
Stephen F. Austin scored on 14 of the next 15 rallies to build a comfortable lead that they were able to see out to their tenth conference win of the season. The Ladyjacks now have an overall mark of 18-6 on the year.
Ortiz finished with 13 kills. Kyanna Creecy had eight kills and four total blocks for Stephen F. Austin.
INSIDE THE BOX
Kocakaya led the Privateers with five kills.
Divine Muo and
Courtney Roundtree had four kills each.
Dayla Ward finished with a team-high 11 digs.
