NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's basketball team (0-2) travels to the Pittsburgh, Pa., area for a trio of games at the Urban-Bennett MTE, hosted by Robert Morris.
Things get underway on Thursday when New Orleans faces Lindenwood (1-1) for the first time at the UPMC Events Center. Another first-time meeting follows on Friday afternoon when the Privateers take on Stonehill (1-2). New Orleans will then face host school Robert Morris (1-2) on Sunday for only the second time ever. In their only previous meeting, UNO emerged victorious, 75-70, at the Human Performance Center in 1997.
The Privateers are led in scoring by transfer
James White, who averages 18.5 points per game, ranking third in the Southland. White is also second on the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game, which ranks fourth in the Southland. Leading the team in rebounding is freshman
MJ Thomas, who is pulling down 8.5 boards in just over 22 minutes per game off the bench. Thomas ranks second in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per contest at 6.0 and grabbed 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes against Troy on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
Lindenwood enters the tournament with a 1-1 record, having lost to Oklahoma and defeated the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Like the Privateers, Lindenwood has 10 new faces on this season's roster, including leading scorer Markeith Browning II, who is averaging 12.5 points per game. Jadis Jones is the only other Lion averaging in double figures, with 12.0 points per game, and he leads the team in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game. The Lions were picked ninth in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference poll.
Stonehill enters the season with a 1-2 record, having secured a home victory over Framingham State and suffered road losses to Notre Dame and Providence. Todd Brogna leads the Skyhawks in both scoring, with 13.0 points per game, and rebounding, with 5.7 boards per game. Brogna is the only returning starter from last year, though the Skyhawks bring back 8 players from last season's 16-man roster. Stonehill has dropped 24 straight road games, including an 0-19 mark last season.
Like Stonehill, Robert Morris comes in with a 1-2 record this season, with losses at West Virginia and Delaware before securing their first victory over Div. III Chatham. Ryan Prather Jr. has been the standout player for the Colonels so far. The redshirt sophomore leads the team in scoring (12.7 points per game), field goal percentage (.611), and three-point percentage (.667). Alvaro Flogueiras leads the team in rebounding with 9.7 boards per game. Robert Morris was picked ninth in the preseason Horizon League poll.
