New Orleans Men's Basketball Hits Two-Game Road Swing to A&M-Commerce and Northwestern State

COMMERCE, Tx. -The University of New Orleans men's basketball team (8-15, SLC 3-7) is gearing up for an important matchup against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, with the goal of completing a sweep before their next game against Northwestern State on Monday. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and NASH 106.1 FM, featuring commentary by Jude Young.

This contest will only be the fourth meeting between the two teams, with New Orleans currently leading the all-time series 2-1, having won the last two encounters. In their previous clash, New Orleans secured an 88-85 victory over Commerce, with Jordan Johnson delivering an outstanding performance, contributing 36 points, six assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Mason Jones also had a notable game with a career-best 17 points, seven rebounds, one block, and one assist, while Turk Vincent notched his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds, along with two assists and one block.

Following a week where they went 1-1, with a loss to UIW and a dominant win over HCU (84-58), the Privateers are looking to maintain their momentum on the road. In their latest victory, three players stood out in double figures, led by Jordan Johnson with 24 points, followed by Wilson-Rouse with 16 points and Vincent with 14 points. Johnson continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per game overall and 22.8 points per game in Southland Conference play. Wilson-Rouse (12.9)  and Tyson Jackson (11.1) are the only other players averaging double figures in conference play.

New Orleans remains the top team in the SLC in terms of free throws made per game, averaging 16.3.

On the other hand, the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (8-15, SLC 2-8) are coming off a tough loss against McNeese, where Jerome Brewer Jr. stood out with an impressive 32-point performance, surpassing his career-high. The Lions will be looking to bounce back at home after a two-game losing streak.
