SAN ANTONIO - The New Orleans men's basketball team is gearing up for their final regular-season road games against UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Their first matchup will be against the UIW Cardinals on Saturday at the Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. Central Time, with the game broadcast live on ESPN+ and NASH ICON 106.1, featuring play-by-play commentary by Jude Young.
Currently, the Privateers are tied with the Cardinals for ninth place in the Southland Conference standings.
In their recent game against Southeastern, the Privateers displayed resilience with a late 16-9 run but fell short, losing 77-67. Despite the loss, they shot over 50% in the second half and held the Lions to 21% from long range.
Jordan Johnson led the charge with 22 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists, marking his 13th 20-plus point game of the season.
Tyson Jackson also contributed with 17 points and eight rebounds, while
Kaleb Jenkins matched his season-high with eight points, including two crucial three-pointers.
Jordan Johnson remains the top scorer for the Privateers, averaging 21.3 points per game, along with leading in three-point percentage (35.1%), free-throw percentage (82%), assists (4.0), and steals (1.6). He stands atop the conference and ranks 12th nationally in scoring.
Khaleb Wilson-Rouse also contributes with an average of 10.6 points per game, boasting an 83% shooting accuracy from the foul line.
New Orleans leads the conference in free throws made per game (16.5) and has shown improved shooting in their last three games, averaging 74.6 points per game this season, with a shooting percentage of 42.3% from the field and 30.6% from beyond the arc.
The Cardinals are aiming to end a four-game losing streak after their recent loss to Nicholls State, where Sky Wicks led with 22 points and nine rebounds, and Dylan Hayman recorded a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds. TJ Ford Jr. and Josiah Hammons also contributed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Wicks leads UIW in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.3 points and five rebounds per contest, while Hammons averages 11.9 points per game. UIW maintains an average of 73.3 points per game this season, shooting 43.4% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range as a team.
