NOMINATION FORM
NEW ORLEANS – Nominations for the New Orleans Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 are now open. Over the course of the next few months, all alumni, faculty, staff, friends of the program as well as local media are encouraged to nominate former Privateer student-athletes, coaches and staff to be included on this year's Hall of Fame ballot.
To nominate a former student-athlete, coach or staff member, simply
fill out the online nomination form by Monday, March 31
st.
All nominees from previous years remain on the ballot. Should an existing nominee receive additional nominations, that information will be combined into one nomination for the Hall of Fame Advisors Committee to consider.
The University of New Orleans Hall of Fame returned in 2022 after a 13-year hiatus. The class of 2022 included Javonne Brooks (volleyball), Bob Brown (men's golf/administrator), Ervin Johnson (men's basketball), Burzis Kanga (men's tennis), Carvie Upshaw (women's basketball) as well as Friends of the Program Cheryl and Pierre Champagne.
The 2023 class included former men's basketball head coach Tim Floyd who led the Privateers to three NIT appearances and two NCAA tournament appearances in six seasons on the Lakefront, former Privateer three-time All-American golfer Rick Gaille, former Golden Spikes winner Augie Schmidt, and Bo McCalebb, who still leads the Sun Belt Conference's all-time scoring list with 2,679 points despite playing his last collegiate basketball game in 2008. New Orleans alumni and Privateer supporter Scot Craig was also included as a Friend of the Program.
2024's Hall of Fame class included Terry Kieffer and Wally Whitehurst. Kieffer won the Corbett Award for best amateur athlete in Louisiana in 1974 and Whitehurst is the baseball program's career leader in wins and complete games. Ledell Eackles (men's basketball) was selected after a star-studded career that saw him earn All-American Honorable Mention twice before going on to a 10-year career in the NBA. Kristin O'Hearn (volleyball) led the Privateers in kills and digs in three seasons and made six in-season all-tournament teams. Mike Bujol (administration) served nearly three decades in the New Orleans Athletic Department between sports information, sales, marketing and administration.
The class of 2024 will be celebrated along with the 2025 class in a ceremony tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 7
th. An announcement of the inductees, as well as information on how to attend the event, will be released at a later date.
