NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans cross country team set five personal bests and put down four top-10 times in school history on their way to a pair of fifth-place finishes against regionally ranked competition on Friday evening.

All three returning Privateer women set personal bests in damp and muggy conditions at Lake Oaks Park. Junior Emma Bourg led the way with a 20th place finish in 14:23.14, shaving 23 seconds off her previous 4K personal best, on her way to the sixth fastest time in program history. Right behind her was Petra Imre whose mark of 14:29.45 was an almost 34 second improvement on last her time at last year's Battle for New Orleans and is now the eighth fastest 4K in school history. Michela Papalia finished in 14:45.01 – a 55 second improvement on her time last season, and the 13th fastest time 4K time in school history.

Sophomore transfer Daira Rojas Vasquez finished in 16:06.53 – an incredible one minute and 16 second improvement on her sole cross country race at UTRGV last season.

On the men's side, Mason Appleton knocked 16 seconds off of his prior personal best with a time of 15:04.12 – good for 14th place on the night and the third fastest time in school history. Antonio Delgado, Landen Juneau, and Brandt Blanchard finished in a pack with times of 16:05.16, 16:07.08, and 16:08.26. Freshman Ben Stumm rounded out the scoring for the Privateer men with a time of 16:55.81.

The Tulane Green Wave took home both the men's and women's team championships with scores of 17 and 18. Dorcas Naibei of Tulane won the women's race in 13:31.12, while Bernard Cheruiyot of Tulane won the men's race in 13:08.53 – his second straight victory in the event.

The Privateers return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, when they run in the Azalea City Classic in Mobile, Alabama. The women's 6K will start at 6:05 p.m. with the men's 8K to follow. Updates will be available on @privateerstfxc on both X and Instagram.
