ATLANTA, Ga. – The New Orleans Privateers rallied to tie the series finale in the late stages, but fell short as Georgia State took both games of a Saturday doubleheader. The Panthers won the first game 12-4 and took the second game 5-4 at the GSU Baseball Complex.
GAME 2: GEORGIA STATE-5 NEW ORLEANS-4
The Panthers struck for a run in the first inning on a throwing error that allowed Jae Williams to score. After Georgia State added a run in the third and two more in the fifth, they increased their lead to 4-0.
The Privateers responded with a four-run seventh to tie the score though as they sent 10 men to the plate.
Kruise Newman brought in the first run when he brought in
Jake D'Altrui on an RBI single.
Dylan Biddick hustled to reach base on a Panthers fielding error that trimmed the gap further. Then
Evan Rogers came through with a two-run single to right that scored
Dathan Cummings and
Owen Smith.
That's where the score remained until the eighth inning. The Panthers loaded the bases with one out in the inning.
Brice Deaton then induced a pop up to get the second out on the board. However, Wesley Bass drew a walk that brought in what wound up the winning run.
Collin Loupe got hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth, but Jacob Crews struck out the next three batters in order to preserve the sweep for Georgia State.
GAME 1: GEORGIA STATE-12 NEW ORLEANS-4
The Privateers got on the board first thanks to a
Kaden Irving RBI single that drove in
Dylan Biddick in the opening frame. However, the Panthers erupted for six runs in their half of the first. Five of those runs came in with two outs.
William Andrade came in on the mound and settled things down with 3.1 scoreless innings and six strikeouts. In that same stretch, the Privateers got a run in the second and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-3.
However, Georgia State opened the lead up again with three runs in their half of the fifth. John Beverley scored a run on a fielder's choice then came around to score himself on a wild pitch later in the frame. The Panthers added another run through a sac fly to extend their lead to 9-3.
