NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will head to South Texas to take on UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Privateers will visit UTRGV on Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by a trip to Corpus Christi on Monday also at 2 p.m.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers are looking to snap a six-match losing streak since their last victory against Southern on Mar. 10. New Orleans was dealt a pair of 5-2 losses against Lamar and UIW to open conference play.

Carlos Melgosa continues to pace the team in wins after he picked up his 11th against UIW. Melgosa has won five of his last seven matches entering the weekend. Melgosa also has eight wins in doubles this season.

As a team, the Privateers have won 54 percent of their singles matches. Beltran Fernandez has nine wins while Gonzalo Cotter has eight and Jacob Rouleau-Mailly has seven wins.

The Privateers lost to UTRGV in the regular season last year but defeated them in the Southland Tournament. The last eight matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have been hotly contested. Six of the eight matches have been decided by a 4-3 score line.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer women split a pair of conference matches last week. A 4-3 win against Southeastern was followed by a 5-2 loss to McNeese who leads the Southland Conference standings.

Fleur Sprengers was crowned Southland Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday. The sophomore had a 4-0 week including a win over reigning Conference Player of the Year, Salome Fluri in singles. Sprengers has a 13-1 record in singles entering the weekend.

Kateryna Kalistratova continues to put on a sensational senior season. Kalistratova won her most recent match against McNeese's Alexa Martinez in three sets. Kalistratova has won ten straight three-set matches dating back to 2025 and is 11-2 in singles overall this year.

The doubles team of Sprengers and Danique Vermue continue to rack up wins against opponents' top doubles tandems. The duo is 9-3 at flight one this year and has won three straight coming into the weekend.

The women's team is looking for their first victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi since 2021. Last season in the first meeting ever between the two sides, UTRGV beat New Orleans 5-2.
