NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will take to the court on Thursday for their regular season finale as both squads will play at Nicholls starting at 10 a.m.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer women come into their last match of the regular season at 8-9 overall and 2-6 in Southland play. They are tied for eighth with Lamar in what would be the final spot in the Southland Tournament.
New Orleans has the head-to-head tiebreaker over Lamar with a 5-2 win earlier this season at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Privateers went 0-2 in their trip through South Texas as they lost to UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. New Orleans picked up two points in singles during their loss to UTRGV.
Fleur Sprengers' five-match winning streak was snapped at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday but the sophomore still has an excellent record of 14-2 in singles.
Kateryna Kalistratova's match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went unfinished after she won against her opponent from UTRGV. Kalistratova has a record of 12-2 overall with five straight wins.
The Privateer women have dominated Nicholls of late. Eight of the last nine matches dating back to 2016 have gone to the Privateers.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer men will not qualify for the Southland Tournament as they are outside of the top four in the conference standings. New Orleans has a record of 8-11 overall and 0-4 in Southland play.
The guys picked up one point between their two matches against UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in their most recent stretch. The point was a
Jerall Yasin victory at flight five against UTRGV.
Carlos Melgosa is 11-5 overall and has led the Privateers in singles wins throughout the majority of the season. 10 of those 11 victories have come at flight three.
The Privateers are 50-49 overall in their singles matches this season.
Beltran Fernandez has nine wins and
Gonzalo Cotter follows closely behind with eight.
New Orleans has won their last six matchups against Nicholls and nine of their last 10 meetings going back to 2015. The only Colonels win in that stretch came in 2018.
