The University of New Orleans women's volleyball team rallied for a 30-18 win in the fourth game against North Texas, but fell short in the deciding game five, 15-11. UNO (6-15 overall/2-8 Sun Belt) had fewer attack errors than North Texas (10-12/5-5) but was unable to get key points in the fifth game. UNO has played in seven five-game matches this season and has a 2-5 mark in those matches.
Led by junior middle blocker Melissa Caravella's 18 kills, eight digs and eight blocks as she led four players with double-digit kills. Freshman Jennifer Cruz had 16 kills, senior middle blocker Ann MacMillan had 15 kills and 10 digs and junior Mary Wanko had 10 kills. Junior setter Alison Howard had 57 assists and 14 digs while freshman defensive specialist Melissa Mikuski had a career-best and team leading 18 digs.
The Privateers continue their three-match road swing with a stop at Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, October 28th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. New Orleans then travels to Southern Miss on Tuesday, October 30th before returning home on November 2nd to face Sun Belt west division rival Denver at 7:00 p.m
