New Orleans, La. - The University of New Orleans volleyball team opens the 2001 season against Tulane at the NOKIA Sugar Bowl Classic at Tulane's Fogelman Gym at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31st, 2001. The Privateers continue tournament play against UNLV at 10:00 a.m. and LSU at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 1st.
New Orleans is led by junior middle blocker/outside hitter Mary Wanko who was a second team all-conference selection last year. Senior tri-captains Ann MacMillan, Cathy Hughes and Liz Matsko look to lead the team back to the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship match in search of the program's first berth in the NCAA Tournament.
New Orleans opens the home season on Friday, September 7th against Florida A & M at 7:30 p.m. in the night game of the UNO Tournament.
