Privateers Fall to Rattlerettes, 3-2, in Home Opener

The University of New Orleans(1-3) women's volleyball team fell to Florida A & M, tonight at the Lakefront Auxiliary gym, in front of a crowd of 454.

Freshman Jennifer Cruz of Houston, Texas recorded her third double-double of the season for the Privateers with 10 kills and 11 digs and junior Mary Wanko of Kenner, La. had season-highs with 12 kills and 16 digs for her first double-double of the season.

Senior tri-captain Ann MacMillan of Daleville, Ind. had a team-high 18 kills, marking her third match this season with at least 18 kills. Sophomore Kneckie Stallsworth of Mobile, Ala. also had a career-high 11 kills in the match. Five Privateers reached double-digits in kills in all, with junior Melissa Caravella of Violet, La. rounding out the group with 13 kills in 27 attempts for a game-high attack percentage of 44.4%. The team recorded a season-high 73 kills.

The Rattlerettes (2-0) took the fifth and deciding game, 15-13, to win the hard fought battle. Neither team was able to lead by more than eight points through the entire match. Junior Fiorella Alta Junek of Lima, Peru led the way for Florida A & M with 27 kills.
