HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2004) – University of New Orleans golfer Kenji Murayma tied a competitive course and tournament record with a first-round 64 to hold a share of first place in the F&M Bank Austin Peay State Intercollegiate being played at The Links at Novadell here Monday.
Murayama, along with Robert Dinwiddle of Tennessee State, shot a record tournament-low following 36 holes of play with a 134. After Murayama fired an opening-round 64, Dinwiddle tied Murayama's record in the final round of the day with a 64 of his own.
Meanwhile, the Privateers hold second in the team scoring of the 16-school field with a two-round total of 564 – just three strokes behind team leader and host Austin Peay (561).
All five Privateer golfers shot at least par on the day as Jason Kuperman (71-72) and Brandon Uchida (72-71) were next for UNO with a 143 total and a 21st place tie. Santiago Escobar (72-72) and Aaron Moreno (72-72) each shot par in both of their rounds for a 144 and a 29th place tie.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
