NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans golf team heads to Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas, for the 2026 edition of the Southland Conference Championship on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Privateers enter the Southland Championship as the No. 5 seed and currently are ranked No. 252 in the country, according to Clippd' Scoreboard. The Lamar Cardinals are the No. 1 seed with a ranking of No. 160.

New Orleans finished the regular season with a 44-64-3 (.421) record, including a 14-12-0 (.538) mark against Southland Conference foes. UNO is averaging 293.43 per round this season, with a low round of 277. The Privateers have shot 894 or better in nine of 10 tournaments this season and finished the regular season with a winning record against Southland opponents for the fifth straight season.

UNO finished in 10th place at last season's Southland Championships but has had success at the event in recent seasons. New Orleans finished in third place in both 2022 and 2024 and notched a second-place finish in 2023.

The Privateers' best score at a Southland Championship was 872, recorded in 2022. Their best score in any conference championship is an 854 shot at the 2008 Sun Belt Championships. In five previous appearances at Comanche Trace, the team's best effort was an 870 at the Big Texan in 2019.

Individually the Privateers were led by Tom Watson who averaged 72.63 in 30 rounds of golf this season. Watson finished with 11 rounds under par, and a low 54-hole score of 208. He also led the team in both birdies (95) and eagles (5). Tom finished tied for third at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate three weeks ago - the best finish by a Privateer this season - with rounds of 65, 67 and 76. Watson shot 223 at last season's Southland Championship.

The best individual score by a Privateer at the Southland Championship is 215, shot by Grayson Gilbert in 2023. Oscar Zetterwall holds the lowest conference championship score with a 208 in a winning effort at the 2010 Sun Belt Championship. Ryan Fulton owns UNO's all-time low score at Comanche Trace after shooting a 210 at the 2019 Big Texan.
