NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans moved up one spot and finished fourth on the final day of the 2026 Southland Conference Championship at Comanche Trace on Wednesday afternoon.
Once again,
Tom Watson led the way for the Privateers. In his final outing in Silver and Blue, the Englishman improved six strokes from round one to two, and another four strokes between rounds two and three to finish at 218 — tied for eighth place.
After a bogey on the opening hole Wednesday, Watson was at par or better the rest of the way and finished with a third-round scorecard of 69 — his seventh round below 70 this season. Tom finished his tournament with six birdies — including two on his final two holes, taking him to 101 for the season. He also led the field in pars made with 40.
Matthew Lotz added his second top-10 finish this season after shooting a 219. After a slow start in the opening round, Lotz finished both rounds two and three with scores of 71. The Cape Town native used four birdies and four pars on his opening nine holes and sat 3-under for the day at the turn on Wednesday. He finished his 54 holes with a team-high nine birdies.
Lotz and Watson finished this season with 11 and 12 rounds of golf under par individually. The only other times the Privateers have had two different golfers with double-digit rounds under par in the same season were in 2007-2008 with Ken Looper (23) and Jose Toledo (19), and in 2006-2007 with Toledo (12) and Jason Kuperman (11).
Tom finishes his season with a 72.363 average – tied for the eighth best single season average in school history with Ken Looper (2009-2010). Matt finishes his season with a 73.273 average – good for 14
th all-time in school history.
Rounding out the top 25 finishes were
Max Feistmantl who tied for 18
th, and
Garrett Trahan who tied for 25
th. Feistmantl finished with a score of 222 and seven birdies. Wednesday marked the fifth top-20 finish of his career at UNO with four of those coming this season. "Big Red" finished with a score of 225 with seven birdies – his top-25 was the best of the season for the Sulphur native.
Adam Trahan played in two of the three rounds and finished with a score of 153.
Taylor Boasberg replaced him in the second round on Tuesday and shot a 79.
UNO's fourth-place finish marks its fourth top-four finish at the Southland Championship in the last five seasons. Their score of 880 was a 26-stroke improvement from last season's Southland Championship on the same course.
New Orleans finishes the 2025–26 season with a record of 48-67-3 (.448), including a mark of 17-13-0 (.566) against Southland Conference schools. The Privateers have posted a winning record against conference foes in six of the past seven seasons, and their scoring average of 293.42 is the sixth-lowest by the team in the past 35 seasons.
