NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 20, 2004) – Kenji Murayama shot a 36-hole, three-under par 136 to hold sixth place for the University of New Orleans as the Privateers rank 10th of 15 teams after the first day of the Raising Cane Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss.Â
Played at Canebrake Golf Club, Murayama shot an even-par 71 during his first round, while firing a 68 during his second circuit to lead UNO individuals.
Santiago Escobar (74-72) and Brandon Uchida (75-71) were next for UNO as they finished tied for 35th at 146, while Aaron Moreno (74-75) ranks tied for 62nd at 149 and Jason Kuperman (79-75) rounded out the UNO field tied for 77 with a 154.
Kyle Ellis of Ole Miss leads the individual field with a seven-under 135 score, while the Rebels lead the team competition with a 557, 13 strokes ahead of Sam Houston State, South Florida, Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulane. UNO shot team rounds of 294 and 286 to hold 10th after the first day.
The Privateers complete the event Tuesday with 18 holes.
