Box Score NEW ORLEANS - McNeese State closed out a sweep of a three-match season series against the University of New Orleans with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) victory on Tuesday night at the Lakefront Arena Auxiliary Gym.
The loss was the second straight for UNO (5-9) as Edina Dobi had a match-high 11 kills with a .421 hitting percentage. Kaitlin Hatcher totaled eight kills with Cassidy Asebroek dishing out 29 assists. Hatcher was also the leading player from the back row with eight digs.
Priscilla Massengale led McNeese (7-13) with 11 kills with Regina Trapp right behind her with nine. Becky Bekelja had 31 assists to go with seven digs while Katie Kennedy led all players with 12 digs.
McNeese took advantage of Privateer service errors in the first set, coming back from an early 4-1 deficit to take control of the set. The hosts had six service errors in the frame, giving the Cowgirls an edge that UNO could not come back from on way to a 25-18 victory.
UNO again took the first points of the second frame for a 2-1 lead before the Cowgirls scored 8 of 10 points to move ahead. McNeese's largest lead of set was eight points at 15-7 on way to their second straight 25-18 victory.
After the break, it was the Privateers in control for of the set, holding an advantage as late in the frame as 16-15. Both teams went through seven ties before a UNO error put the visiting Cowgirls in the lead for good at 17-16. McNeese closed out the match with a 25-20 set win on a kill from Trapp.
The Privateers will have 17 days off until their next pair of matches, a home tri-match that includes Rust College and Dillard on Oct. 22. The match against Dillard will take place following Senior Day festivities to honor Asebroek and Dobi.
