NEW ORLEANS - A slow shooting start from the field plagued the University of New Orleans women's basketball team in an 86-33 loss to McNeese State on Tuesday night at Lakefront Arena.
McNeese (1-1) received 13 points from Kendra Wells to lead four players in double figures. Kiara Johnson and Candace LaCombe scored 12 points apiece while Ashlyn Baggett added 10 points. Johnson notched a double-double with 13 rebounds.
Megan Buckley and Mirjam Sipos totaled nine points apiece for UNO (0-2). Victoria Smith had seven rebounds.
UNO struggled from the field to start the contest, missing its first 10 shots before Sipos connected on a jumper.
The Sipos basket stopped a 29-2 Cowgirls' run to open the game while also igniting a 3 of 7 performance from the field to close the half for the Lady Privateers as McNeese took a 40-13 lead into the break.
The momentum continued into the second half despite Sipos sitting on the bench after picking up her fourth foul.
UNO came out of the break to make six of their first 11 attempts from the field, scoring 15 points in the second half's first 10 minutes. The Lady Privateers would cool off over the last 10 minutes of the game, making just 1 of 9 down the stretch.
UNO will remain home for a Friday contest against Southeastern Louisiana at the Human Performance Center. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
