NEW ORLEANS - University of New Orleans senior outside hitter Edina Dobi was listed amongst the top volleyball players in the state, earning recognition to the All-Louisiana volleyball team announced Tuesday afternoon.
In a vote of sports information directors across the state, Dobi was selected to the All-Louisiana second-team. The honor is the first for the native of Eger, Hungary, who served as UNO's top offensive weapon this season.
One of three scholarship players on the Privateer roster this year as the institution reclassifies away from Division I, Dobi helped lead the Privateers to a winning campaign in head coach Kim Young's first season at the helm of the program.
The senior outside hitter paced the team's offensive efforts by pounding down 3.45 kills per set to rank fourth amongst student-athletes at NCAA Independent or reclassifying institutions.
In addition to her ranking in kills, Dobi ranked second amongst the group in hitting percentage (.287) and aces per set (0.45). Setter Cassidy Asebroek's favorite target, Dobi had 10 or more kills in 13 matches including a streak of 10 straight during the 2010 season.
For the second-straight year, LSU boasted the LSWA Player of the Year, as senior outside hitter Angela Bensend took home the honors. Teammate Desiree Elliott captured Freshman of the Year honors while head coach Fran Flory claimed the Coach of the Year honors for the second-consecutive season. Tulane's Izabela Grot was a unanimous selection as Newcomer of the Year while Louisiana Tech's Lori Hunsucker picked up Defensive Player (Libero) of the Year honors.
