Box Score UNO-UWG Box Score

CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia emerged from a battle of two Gulf South Conference teams seeking their first league win, picking up a 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11) victory over the University of New Orleans on Saturday afternoon at the Coliseum.

The win was the first GSC home win for UWG (6-15, 1-6 GSC) since defeating Valdosta State on Oct. 20, 2009, ending a 10-match conference losing streak at home.

Emily Reul coupled 20 kills with 22 digs to pace the Wolves in both categories. Helen Menchinger pounded out 15 kills with Samantha Drane directing the offense with 49 assists.

Ryan Hamilton posted her second career double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs to lead UNO (2-13, 0-7 GSC). The freshman setter previously posted a double-double against Martin Methodist on Sept. 3 with 40 assists and 13 digs.

Evelyn Kovacs, Laila Hansen and Tory Hearn totaled seven kills apiece for the Privateers. Elena Villar and Jasmyne Walker posted six kills each with Jessie Mouton leading the UNO defensive efforts with 16 digs.

After UWG took the opening frame, the Privateers claimed the second set by a 25-21 score. UNO had not won a set in their previous 24 attempts, dating back to a second stanza victory at Centenary on Sept. 17.

The Wolves took back control of the match, producing an 8-1 run midway through the third set on way to a 25-17 win before rounding out the contest with a 25-11  victory in the fourth frame.

The Privateers will get a 10-day layoff before continuing their season on Oct. 18 against GSC foe West Florida. The contest will be the first of a season-long four match homestand at the Human Performance Center for UNO.
