RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – A challenge awaits the University of New Orleans women's basketball program as it heads to Arkansas to face perennial NCAA Division II power Arkansas Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m.

This weekend's contest represents the first on the road for UNO (0-2) this year after falling 66-56 to Texas Wesleyan in their opener and 70-57 to Spring Hill this past Tuesday at Lakefront Arena.

Freshman Yosha Watson and Mirjam Sipos continue to carry the bulk of the offense for the Lady Privateers, averaging 14.5 points per game. Watson's contributions this season include an average of 13 rebounds an outing, courtesy of posting double-doubles in her first two games at the collegiate level.

The most recent setback to SHC featured the emergence of Mechel'le Thomas as a third scorer for UNO. Thomas played a season-high 22 minutes and dropped in 12 points, joining Watson as the lone Lady Privateers in double-figures.

The trio will look to help head coach Keeshawn Carter get her initial win at the helm of her alma mater.

With the University in the midst of a transition, Carter's squad will get a first-hand look at what it takes to be successful at the NCAA Division II level.

The first of nine Division II opponents on the docket this season, ATU (1-0) has won 37 straight games at home including last Saturday's 115-59 victory over Central Baptist.

Ranked No. 4 in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, the Golden Suns have appeared in the last two NCAA Division II Elite Eights. Natalia Santos is the top scorer through one game with 18 points with Jessica Weatherford second on the squad with 16 points, in addition to her team-best 18 rebounds.

Saturday's game will have live stats and a web stream available on the ATU web site located at http://athletics.atu.edu.

Following this weekend's action, UNO will head to Tulane for a contest against the Green Wave on Monday at 7 p.m. The Lady Privateers lead the all-time series against the Uptown school 30-18, but have not played since 2003.
