NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans women's basketball team will head Uptown to face Tulane on Monday at 7 p.m. as the two in-city rivals play for the first time since 2003.
UNO (0-3) is still looking for its first win of the young 2011-12 campaign and for the second straight game, face an uphill battle.
The Lady Privateers dropped a 110-59 result to Arkansas Tech on Saturday. The Golden Suns entered the game ranked No. 4 in the nation at the NCAA Division II level and by defeating UNO, won its 38
th straight home contest.
After posting double-double performances in her first two games at the collegiate level,
Yosha Watson was held in check by ATU. The freshman was caught in foul trouble and only attempted three shots on way to scoring one point and grabbing three rebounds.
On the season, Watson ranks second on the Lady Privateer roster with 10 points per game while topping the squad with 9.7 rebounds a contest.
Mirjam Sipos is the leading scorer for UNO at 13.7 points an outing and has reached double-figures in the first three games of the season.
Off to a 3-0 start for the second straight season, Tulane will present another challenge for a Lady Privateer squad in the midst of an eight-game swing away from the Lakefront.
Entering the week with a victory on Saturday over No. 20 LSU in overtime, the Green Wave have defeated three straight teams from the state of Louisiana to start their slate.
Three players are averaging double-figures for the Green Wave through three games, led by Olivia Grayson with 16.3 points. Danielle Blagg and Tiffany Dale follow with 14 and 13 points, respectively with Brett Benzio pacing the unit with 10 rebounds per contest.
UNO leads the all-time series against Tulane 30-18 with the Uptown school having the most success of late with victories in eight of the last nine contests. The Lady Privateers had a 21-game win streak in the series snapped on Feb. 19, 1993.
Following Monday's contest, UNO will spend its Thanksgiving in Arkansas for a pair of games in the 5
th Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic. The Lady Privateers will face host Arkansas-Monticello on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before challenging Ouachita Baptist the next day at 12 p.m.
