UNO-Tulane Box Score
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane made 10-three pointers and took advantage of 49.2 percent shooting from the floor to defeat the University of New Orleans 86-39 on Monday night at Fogelman Arena in a crosstown women's basketball battle.
Tulane improved to 4-0 with the victory and won for the ninth time in the last 10 contests against UNO (0-4), though the Lady Privateers maintain a 30-19 advantage in the all-time series between the Crescent City schools.
Danielle Blagg's game-high 17 points included four three-pointers as the Green Wave shooting spelled trouble for UNO throughout the game.
Tulane shot 6 of 12 from beyond the arc and 53.3 percent for the first half compared to a 27.6 percent clip for UNO. The shooting disparity helped the Green Wave carry a 42-17 edge into the half.
In the second half, the hosts added four more three pointers and cemented a 51-25 edge on the glass to take away any opportunity the Lady Privateers would have to step up offensively.
While they connected at a 29.6 percent clip for the game, UNO did prove to be disruptive for the Tulane offense, when the Green Wave were not connecting on their shots. Tulane had 18 turnovers for the contest including 11 in the first half, though the Lady Privateers could not capitalize; only scoring five points off the miscues by the host.
Keri Thomas was the top scorer for UNO after matching her career-high with eight points while the trio of
Megan Buckley,
Mirjam Sipos and
Tiffany Wallace posted six points apiece.
Other top scorers in addition to Blagg for Tulane were Jamie Kaplan with 14 points, Brett Benzio with 12 and the duo of Tyria Snow and Katye Magee with 10 points apiece. Benzio added 10 rebounds to notch a double-double while Adesuwa Embowonyi led all players with 11 boards.
UNO will head back to Arkansas for a second straight weekend, competing in the 5
th Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic. The Lady Privateers will face host Arkansas-Monticello on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before challenging Ouachita Baptist the next day at 12 p.m.
