DALLAS, Texas - Former University of New Orleans standout Jose Toledo will compete for a spot in the 111th U.S. Open on Monday when he tees off at the Dallas Athletic Club.

Toledo is one of 71 players competing at the DAC, one of several sectional qualifying tournaments to be held around the country on Monday. The top four players after two rounds will advance to the U.S. Open that will be contested June 16-19 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

The native of Guatemala earned a place in Monday's sectionals after taking first place at a local U.S. Open qualifier at Lakeside Country Club in Houston last month. Toledo shot a 4-under 68 to join three other golfers atop the leaderboard at the event.

This week's competition will feature a step up in competition as several PGA Tour professionals will join the golfers that qualified through the local rounds.

Former British Open champions Todd Hamilton (2004) and Justin Leonard (1997) headline the list of those competing in Dallas, alongside 1992 U.S. Open champion Tom Kite, 2000 PGA Championships runner-up Bob May, teenage phenom Jordan Spieth and LSU's Andrew Loupe.

During his career at UNO, Toledo was twice named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Player of the Year while qualifying in 2007 for the NCAA East Regional as an individual.

The former Privateer is playing on the Adams Pro Tour in 2011 and his results through six tournaments have included a tie for sixth at the Southwest Louisiana Lions Club Open in March. Toledo has missed the cut in last two tournaments after finishing No. 2 on the money list in 2010 that included four top-five finishes and a victory at the East Texas Open.

Toledo will tee off at 7:20 a.m. on Monday morning on the 10th hole with Texas A&M golfer Jordan Russell and Zach Johnson, who is of no relation to the 2007 Masters Champion.
