Privateers Seek to Extend Win Streak to Three

There will be no live in-game updates for this match.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of New Orleans volleyball team will look to extend a pair of streaks as it visits Centenary on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Gold Dome.

In addition to building on a two-match winning streak that has come in the form of 3-0 victories over Alcorn State and Southern-New Orleans, UNO (2-4) will be seeking to improve to 10-0 all-time in the series against Centenary (4-1).

To accomplish the task will be a challenge as the Privateers face a Centenary squad that will not only be making their 2011 home debut, but is also off to their best start since going 6-0 at the onset of the 1990 campaign.

The Ladies, who will play at American Southwest Conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night, are led by junior middle blocker Shelby Singleton. The former De La Salle HS standout is off to an impressive start on the young season, averaging 4.28 kills per set with a .582 attack percentage.

UNO head coach Kim Young's defense will look to continue its trend as of late and counter Singleton and the Centenary offense.

Over the last two matches, the Privateers has averaged 16.67 digs per set and 1.5 blocks per set, enabling the squad to hold opponents to a meager .042 hitting percentage.

Freshmen Jessie Mouton and Laila Hansen are leading the digging efforts with 4.3 and three digs per set, respectively. Three other newcomers – Rebecca Lacey, Elena Villar and Ryan Hamilton – are averaging at least 1.8 digs per set over the same period of time.

Jasmyne Walker has had a hand in most of the blocks, averaging one per set to go along with an increased offensive output that has seen the Austin, Texas native hit .605 with 4.3 kills per set over the last two matches.

Following this weekend's trip to Centenary, the Privateers will continue their road trip as they face three-time defending Gulf South Conference champion West Florida on Tuesday before venturing to nationally-ranked North Alabama on Friday.
