SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of New Orleans volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 26-24) to Centenary on Saturday afternoon at the Gold Dome.
The loss ended a two-match winning streak for UNO (2-4) which had defeated Alcorn State and Southern-New Orleans 3-0 in its previous matches.
Centenary improves to 5-2 on the year and won for the first time against the Privateers in school history after nine straight losses.
Laila Hansen led UNO with 16 kills for the match and was second amongst the squad with 17 digs.
Three other players tallied at least seven kills for the Privateers, including
Tory Hearn who pounded down a career-high with eight.
Ryan Hamilton put up 39 assists for a UNO team that hit .212 for the match.
Jessie Mouton posted 26 digs with
Elena Villar and
Rebecca Lacey contributing 17 and 12 digs, respectively.
Jaclyn Lopez was the top hitter for Centenary with 14 kills. Brooke Bahlinger and Shelby Singleton added 12 apiece.
Beth Nuttall and Caitlin Neese split the setting duties with Nuttal passing around 20 assists to Neese's 18.
UNO will turn around and play three matches on the road this week. The Privateers will face West Florida on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before challenging North Alabama and Christian Brothers on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
