NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans volleyball team posted its first win of the season, defeating Alcorn State 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-23) on Tuesday night at the Human Performance Center.
Jasmyne Walker totaled a match-high 14 kills to lead a UNO (1-4) squad which opened the season with four consecutive losses. Walker had just two errors in 16 attacks to post a season-best .600 hitting percentage as the Privateers hit .323 for the match.
Laila Hansen added another 12 kills on a .440 hitting percentage to bolster the UNO attack which was sparked by
Ryan Hamilton's 38 assists.
Jessie Mouton posted 14 digs as the Privateers limited ASU (0-5) to a .074 hitting percentage for the match.
The Braves were led by Shaquanda Hollis, who totaled seven kills. Monique Ransom had 19 assists for ASU, while Donna Kelly led all players with 15 digs.
With the loss to the Privateers, the Braves have lost 15 straight to UNO head coach Kim Young, who picked up the victories during her tenure at Grambling. The win was also the fourth straight at home for the Privateers dating back to last season.
The UNO volleyball team will next take the floor across the street at Southern-New Orleans on Sept. 14. The match will take place at 7 p.m. at The Castle.
