UNO-NSU Box Score

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans women's basketball team could not overcome an early second half push by Nicholls State in an 80-66 loss at Lakefront Arena on Tuesday night.

NSU (2-1) junior guard KK Babin was the game's top scorer with 26 points.  Jasmine Scott contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Colonels, who won for a second straight outing.

Each player on the UNO (0-2) roster that played in the contest scored at least two points. Mechel'le Thomas led the group with 16 points while the duo of Diarra Carrington and Keri Thomas added 11 points apiece.

Lady Privateer freshman Mathilde Fogelstrom narrowly missed a double-double in just her second game. Fogelstrom scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench in 34 minutes of play.

NSU led by seven points after a three-pointer by UNO's Mirjam Sipos with 18:05 remaining in the contest. The Colonels then went on a 10-1 run to take a 16-point advantage with 14:22 to go, a lead that proved insurmountable for the host Lady Privateers.

NSU allowed UNO within nine points from that point forward on a three-pointer by Keri with 8:17 left before the guests secured their second straight victory down the stretch. The Colonels grabbed their largest lead of the contest at the 2:26 mark, a 19-point advantage.

At the half, NSU led 42-33 at the half, taking advantage of 19 first half turnovers by the Lady Privateers.

Following a 2 of 11 start to the game by UNO from the field, the hosts made 9 of 15 shots to close the half. Despite the solid results, the Lady Privateers could not overcome the effort of Babin, who opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers and completed the opening 20 minutes with 18 points.

The Lady Privateers will conclude their season-opening three-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. against Arkansas-Monticello.  The contest is the opening half of a doubleheader with the UNO men's basketball team which will host Blue Mountain College at 7 p.m. that day.
