LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech claimed the Basketball Travelers Invitational championship on Sunday afternoon with an 81-38 win over New Orleans at United Spirit Arena.
TTU improved to 5-1 on the season and completed a 3-0 weekend with the victory.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Lady Raiders led by the duo of Jackie Patterson and Casey Morris with 16 points apiece. Patterson completed a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The loss was the third in three days for UNO (1-5).
Mechel'le Thomas reached double-figures for the fifth time in six games, leading the Lady Privateers in scoring with 13 points, which included a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the charity line.
Mirjam Sipos and
Keri Thomas added 12 and 11 points, respectively for UNO.
TTU opened the game by scoring 9 of 11 points. The seven-point margin would stand as Keri connected on a three-pointer with 15:38 remaining in the first half to pull the Lady Privateers within seven at 14-7.
UNO would not make a field goal for 5:48 of clock before Keri made a second three-pointer. By the time Keri's three-pointer found the bottom of the net, the Lady Raiders were ahead 27-17 and would continue to build on the edge, carrying a 43-16 lead into the break.
TTU outscored the Lady Privateers 38-22 over the game's final 20 minutes. Sipos accounted for eight of the team's 22 points after the break with the Lady Raider lead growing to a game-high advantage of 46 points with 4:59 remaining in the contest.
The Lady Privateers will resume their 2012-13 schedule on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Southeastern Louisiana at Lakefront Arena. The game is the fresh end of a doubleheader with the UNO men's basketball team which faces Southeast Missouri State at 7 p.m.
