Lady Privateers Lose to Southeastern Louisiana 76-64

Lady Lions Seize Momentum Late in First Half

UNO-SLU Box Score

NEW ORLEANS – Southeastern Louisiana seized the momentum with a 21-4 run that began late in the first half en route to a 76-64 victory over New Orleans at Lakefront Arena on Thursday night.

Four players reached double-figures for SLU (4-2) in the contest led by Symone Miller with 14 points. Elizabeth Styles contributed 13 with Jameika Hoskins and Eric Hernandez adding 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Mechel'le Thomas matched her season-high with 17 points to lead UNO (1-6). Keri Thomas and Amber Clay netted 14 apiece with Clay's double-figure effort, her second of the season. Lady Privateer forward Mathilde Fogelstrom led all players with 10 rebounds.

A close game until late in the contest, the teams exchanged the lead six times with seven ties – all in the first half.

Keri made her first four shots from the field and UNO was a collective 4 of 5 at the onset of the game as the hosts led early. Trailing 24-23, the Lady Privateers scored seven straight points to take their largest first half edge at 30-24 with 5:05 remaining.

SLU scored 14 of the final 18 points to take a 38-34 advantage into the break.

The Lady Lions continued to build on their run by adding seven in a row to their count at the onset of the second half to make it 45-34 before Mechel'le made a pair of free throws.

The free throws ended a 21-4 run for the visitors and ignited a 9-0 UNO run capped by a Mirjam Sipos three-pointer which pulled the Lady Privateers within two at 45-43 with 13:48 remaining. The Lady Lions responded once more by scoring 7 of 8 points to provide the guests with a seven-point cushion at 51-44.

A 24-12 rebounding edge in the second half played a large role in SLU's ability to maintain an advantage until the final horn. UNO's 63-57 deficit with 5:48 was as close as the hosts would get down the stretch.

The Lady Privateers will return to action following fall semester exams with a rematch against SLU in Hammond, La. at the University Center on Dec. 11 at 12 p.m.
