Lady Privateers Handed Loss by Louisiana-Lafayette

UNO Falls to In-State Rival on Thursday Night

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana-Lafayette led wire-to-wire in a 68-41 victory over New Orleans at Earl K. Long Gym on Thursday night.

Keri Thomas led UNO (1-8) with 12 points. The scoring performance was the senior guard's eighth in double-figures this season in nine contests.

The win was the second in a row for ULL (5-4), which received a game-high 15 points from Ashley Benjamin. Keke Vail added 12 points off the bench for the hosts with Robbie Brown posting a game-high eight rebounds.

The Ragin' Cajuns opened the contest up early, scoring 17 straight points during a nearly eight-minute drought from the field by UNO. The spurt allowed the hosts to emerge with a 21-4 advantage at the 11:14 mark of the first half.

ULL's lead grew to 41-12 entering the break as ULL connected on 16 of 35 field goal attempts during the opening 20 minutes while benefiting from 18 Lady Privateer turnovers.

For the second straight game, UNO had marked improvement in the final 20 minutes.

The Lady Privateers outscored the Ragin' Cajuns 29-27 in the second half, limiting their turnovers to eight and shooting 43.4 percent from the field.

Overall, UNO shot 5 of 11 from beyond the arc for a 45 percent clip, the team's best outing when attempting at least 10 shots from long-range since a 46.2 percent effort against Southern-New Orleans on Feb. 3, 2011. Thomas and Mirjam Sipos accounted for a pair of three-pointers apiece.

Coming up next for the Lady Privateers is a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday at Lakefront Arena against Jackson State.
