Lady Privateers Defeated by Jackson State

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans was held to a 31.5 percent shooting performance in an 82-51 loss to Jackson State on Sunday at Lakefront Arena.

Keri Thomas led UNO (1-9) with 17 points in the defeat while fellow senior Mirjam Sipos added another 10 for the hosts.  Thomas nearly netted a double-double, pulling down eight rebounds to pace the Lady Privateers.

JSU (3-6) received 57 points from their reserves in the contest, including 16 points from Ekwara Ndongo. Fellow reserves Tiffany Kellum (14) and Rachel Jones (10) also accumulated double-figures for the Lady Tigers.

UNO led several times in the game's first eight minutes, including a 13-10 advantage following a Sipos fast break lay-up with 12:36 remaining in the first half. JSU responded by outscoring the hosts 31-8 before the break to enter the half with a 40-21 lead.

The Lady Tigers' edge grew to a high of 33 points with 4:13 remaining in the game.

The Lady Privateers will play their next two games on the road, visiting Seton Hall on Wednesday at 1 p.m. before challenging Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday at 6 p.m.
