BATON ROUGE, La. - The New Orleans women's basketball team will bring to a conclusion the 2012 portion of their slate on Monday at 2 p.m. as they head west on I-10 to visit in-state rival LSU.
Live stats and video of the game will be available on LSUSports.net.
UNO (1-12) enters the New Year's Eve contest after consecutive losses to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, including a 63-54 defeat this past Friday at Lakefront Arena. In both games against the Golden Lions, the Lady Privateers held their foe below 35 percent from the field.
The UNO defense was stingy in each contest and established a season-best by holding UAPB to a 31.1 percent clip on Friday. The mark eclipsed the previous-defensive best accomplished in the opener against Northwestern State (31.7 percent) and enabled the Lady Privateers to pull down a season-high 55 rebounds.
Each player to hit the floor has aided the defense in their recent success.
Junior guard
Samantha Gray established a career-high with four steals in the first UAPB encounter before freshman forward
Mathilde Fogelstrom matched her with four in the second meeting.
Also on Friday, freshman forward
Yasmin Taylor and freshman guard Haley Alexander mustered career-high performances. Taylor pulled down 16 rebounds and swatted two shots with Alexander adding three rebounds to the Lady Privateers' count.
On the season, senior guards
Keri Thomas and Meche'le Thomas lead UNO with 12.3 and 9.1 points per game, respectively. Fogelstrom is the top rebounder with 8.3 grabs off the glass per game, followed by
Amber Clay (5.7).
Monday's foe LSU (8-4) had its four-game winning streak snapped on Friday night with a 76-70 loss to Florida Gulf Coast. The Lady Tigers' loss dropped the squad to 1-3 in road contests this season compared to a 6-1 mark at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Four players are averaging double-figures for LSU, led by Theresa Plaisance with 18.1 points per game. Plaisance doubles as the team's leading rebounder (8.4) and has blocked a team-high 39 shots through the Lady Tigers' first 12 contests.
LSU leads the all-time series between the teams 21-5, though the squads have not played since Dec. 13, 2009. The Lady Tigers' third-leading scorer Adrienne Webb (14.0) and fourth-leading scorer Bianca Lutley (10.1) are the only players on the LSU roster that played in the 2009 contest alongside Lady Privateer senior guard
Mirjam Sipos.
Following Monday's game, UNO will return to Lakefront Arena on Saturday, Jan. 5 for a 12 p.m. tilt against Southern Miss.
