UNO-Loyola Box Score
NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's basketball team saw their early lead slipped away as Loyola grabbed an 89-59 victory at Lakefront Arena on Wednesday night.
LU (20-2) completed the in-season home-and-home sweep behind the 26 points and 12 rebounds of Jasmine Brewer. Keiva Council added 21 points for the guests.
The Wolfpack trailed by six points at the 13:24 mark of the first before embarking on a 9-0 run that turned the tide in their favor. After swapping leads once earlier in the game, the 17-14 lead LU claimed was the one that they would hold until the final buzzer.
Before the spurt, UNO (0-22) held the visiting squad to a 2 of 10 start from the field.
The poor shooting by the Wolfpack allowed the Lady Privateers to build up a 9-5 lead following a
Mechel'le Thomas three-pointer and to 14-8 several possessions later on a
Mirjam Sipos three-pointer with 13:24 to go until the half.
After trailing 14-8, LU outscored UNO 34-22 heading into the intermission. The Wolfpack had erased their early shooting woes by making 13 of their final 26 shots of the first half.
With the lead in their hand, LU's lead grew to a high of 35 points with 6:24 left in the second half.
UNO had four scorers in double-figures for the contest, including
Megan Buckley with 13. Buckley's total was one off of her career-high of 14 at Dallas Christian on Jan. 6, 2011.
Mechel'le Thomas scored 15 points to lead the Lady Privateers while Sipos and
Keri Thomas had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Privateers will remain at home for a Monday contest against Mobile. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start and will be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM.
