Privateers Fall to Tulane in Season Opener

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team began the season at Tulane and the Green Wave came away with an 81-46 victory Friday night at the Devlin Fieldhouse.
 
UNO (0-1, 0-0 Southland) played Tulane close in the early goings, but the Green Wave took control midway through the first half. Tulane (1-0, 0-0 Conference USA) went on to hold a 35-18 advantage at halftime. UNO only managed to make good on 7-of-27 from the field in the first half, but kept the rebounding edge close, 28-21.
 
In the second half, the Privateers shot better, but they could not overcome Tulane's dominance beyond the arc as the Green Wave finished 6-of-14 from the three-point line. UNO managed 3-of-11 from three-point range and posted a 40.9% field goal percentage in the second half.
 
Forward Mathilde Fogelstrom had 8 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore guard Danielle Davis led the Privateers with 14 points, including two three-pointers.
 
Tulane got three strong performances from their starting five, which contributed to their victory. Junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi led the Green Wave with a double-double (20 points and 15 rebounds). Sophomore center Chinwe Duru put up a double-double as well with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Jamie Kaplan also notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists.
 
The Privateers will open up their home slate as they host in-state rival Grambling State next Thursday, November 14 at 7 p.m. in the Lakefront Arena.
