NEW ORLEANS, La. - The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (0-9) will play the second of a five-game road trip encompassing the Christmas break when they take on the Southern Mississippi Lady Golden Eagles (8-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Privateers were overpowered in their last outing, a 124-41 loss to No. 17 North Carolina in Myrtle Beach. In the loss, freshman guard
Octavia Wilson scored a game-high 21 points and made five three-pointers. Wilson has 41 points in the last three contests (two starts). Wilson also became the first Privateer this season to reach the 20-point mark in a game.

Danielle Davis went for eight points against North Carolina and made a pair of three-pointers. That marks the fourth game this season Davis has made two three-pointers and she has nine triples on the season, ranking second on the team.

These two teams met last year at Lakefront Arena on Jan. 5, a game that Southern Miss took 69-59. The Golden Eagles lead the all time series 25-8 against the Privateers.

Southern Miss is undefeated at home this season (7-0) and six of those wins have come by double figures. Their last loss in Reed Green Coliseum was on Feb 24, 2013 against UAB.

The Lady Golden Eagles are led by Tamara Jones, a junior transfer who is averaging 18.8 points per game and shooting 50.7 percent from the field. She scored 41 points against Arkansas-Little Rock and became the first in USM history to accomplish put in 40-plus since 1984. Jones also leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game.
