UNO Tennis Teams Defeated at South Alabama

Sans, Svensson Post Victories for Privateers in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Both the New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams were defeated on Wednesday afternoon as they faced South Alabama at the Lubel Memorial Tennis Center.
 
The men's match was won 7-0 with the women's match decided by a 5-2 score.
 
On the women's side of competition, UNO dropped to 1-6 on the season while USA upped their record to 5-3 on the campaign.
 
Marta Sans and Victoria Svensson were responsible for the Privateer victories during the competition. Sans defeated Michaela Meszarsova 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 1 court with Svensson posting her first collegiate victory by besting Sibela Gajer 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 at the No. 6 position in the lineup.
 
Kristina Martic almost joined the victors for the Privateers, coming up short in a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 loss to Mariya Krachok at the No. 2 court. The Jaguars won both completed doubles' match to take the lead prior to singles' play.
 
The men's match saw UNO (4-3) get swept to end a three dual winning streak.
 
The Privateers fell behind in doubles' play as USA (4-5) won each of the completed doubles' matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.   
 
The Jaguars then completed the sweep by winning each of the six matches against members of the UNO roster in straight sets.  The closest result in favor of the Privateers came at the No. 3 court where Abdelrahman Zaki fell 7-5, 7-6 to Gerhard Gruindelingh.
 
The next competition for the UNO women's tennis team is Friday with a 9 a.m. match at Louisiana-Lafayette. Both teams will then compete in a 10 a.m. dual at Southern Miss on Saturday.
