Privateer Men's Tennis Defeats Future SLC Foe Incarnate Word

Meligy Responsible for Pair of Wins for UNO

EDINBURG, Texas - Playing on a neural court for the first time this season, the New Orleans men's tennis team defeated future Southland Conference foe Incarnate Word 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Orville Tennis Center located on the campus of Texas-Pan American.

Hossam Meligy factored into a pair of wins for UNO (7-6) which won for the first time since Mar. 16.

Meligy teamed with Ricardo Campos for the first time in five duals for an 8-6 win at the No. 1 doubles position over Leonard Ivic and Aiden DeLeon. The victory secured the doubles' point for the Privateers with Meligy returning later in the day to dispatch Nick Mikulic 6-0, 7-5 on the No. 5 singles' court.

David Malmgren and Guillermo Aylon registered the first UNO win of the dual, defeating Mikulic and Brandon Davis 8-3 at the No. 3 doubles position, putting Campos and Meligy in position to claim the doubles' point.

Rui Silva and Abdelrahman Zaki also posted victories in singles' play for the Privateers.

Silva rolled DeLeon 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 court while Zaki rallied from a set down to defeat Tucker Brown 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 position. The win for Zaki was his third in a row and improved the senior to 7-5 on the dual season.

Ranked No. 19 at the NCAA Division II level by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, UIW dropped to 10-5 on the season and was unable to make UNO its third NCAA Division I win this season.

The Cardinals, who will be members of the Southland Conference in 2013-14, already own victories over Lamar and Prairie View A&M during the current campaign.

Next for UNO is a Monday afternoon dual at 12 p.m. against UTPA. All six of the Broncs' wins during the dual season have come at home, including a 7-0 win over PVAMU on Saturday.
