FRISCO, Texas – Five New Orleans Privateers men's tennis student-athletes earned All-Academic recognition by the Southland Conference as the team was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the conference office.
Jacob Rouleau-Mailly earned honors after earning a 3.91 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major. The junior won 15 matches between singles and doubles while playing mostly at flight one in singles. He also earned a Southland Conference Player of the Week award in February.
Evgenios Vasilakis earned a perfect 4.0 GPA this spring after transferring to the Privateers in January. Vasilakis came over from Presbyterian and is a Marketing major. He won seven singles matches this spring and won three of his first four decisions that went a full three sets.
Carlos Melgosa was a sensational freshman on the squad who led the team in singles victories this season. Melgosa won 20 total matches (11 in singles and 9 in doubles). He began the regular season on a six-match winning streak. Melgosa ins a Finance major who holds a 3.74 GPA.
Gonzalo Cotter also debuted with the Privateers this season and won 16 total matches. He went 8-6 in singles and added another eight victories in doubles. Cotter played most of the season at flight four in singles. He holds a 3.72 cumulative GPA through this year as an Interdisciplinary Studies major.
Beltran Fernandez finished his true freshman season on the court and earned 10 singles victories while playing mostly at flight two. Fernandez started the season by emerging victorious in his first four singles matches. He currently holds a 3.91 GPA in Computer Science.
With the five Privateers who made this year's team, that makes 23 Southland All-Academic selections since 2020.
