Privateer Men's Tennis Roll Past Crosstown Foe Loyola

UNO Faces Top-Ranked Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans men's tennis team ended a two-dual losing streak with a 7-0 victory over Loyola (N.O.) on Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
 
Ricardo Campos posted the big victory for UNO (9-8) in the dual, defeating Tarun Surat of LU (4-8) by a 7-5, 6-4 score at the No. 1 position. Surat entered the match with a 10-1 singles' record including several wins over nationally-ranked NAIA opponents.
 
Campos' result was one of the six straight-set singles' wins for the Privateers on the day. The victories included a positive result for DomInik Kardell by a 6-0, 6-0 score at the No. 6 position providing the German with his second straight win of the dual season.
 
Abdelrahman Zaki and reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week Hossam Meligy each posted their ninth victory of the spring on Friday. Zaki defeated Jaron Belcher 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 position with Meligy getting past Joshua Laviolette 6-1, 6-0 on the No. 3 court.
 
The remaining victories came from David Malmgren and Lovro Curcija at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
 
Prior to singles' play, UNO made its mark in doubles' action by conceding just a pair of games over the three contested matches. The wins included a third straight victory by Campos and Meligy at the No. 1 court over Surat and Belcher.
 
The Privateers will continue their homestand on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the UTC against the NAIA's top-ranked Auburn-Montgomery. Admission is free.
