Privateers Outpaced Early in Loss to Abilene Christian

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (0-14, 0-3 SLC) fell victim to a huge early run and 28 committed turnovers as they fell 88-44 to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (10-6, 1-0) in their first home game since Dec. 14.

The Privateers struggled from the field early, as they did not score until the 13:46 mark of the first half. Abilene Christian took advantage, scoring the first 14 points before Octavia Wilson drained the first of her three first-half triples. The Wildcats stayed hot for the game, draining 13 three-pointers in all on 28 attempts.

UNO fell behind 26-4, but went on a 7-0 run, keyed by baskets from Wilson, Dannisha Jackson, and Amber Clay on a second chance bucket to get within 15. That's as close as the Privateers got as ACU responded with a 10-2 run of their own, and took a 40-19 lead into the halftime locker room. 

Mathilde Fogelstrom led a strong effort on the boards as UNO out-rebounded Abilene Christian 41-37 overall and had a 22-10 advantage on the offensive glass. Fogelstrom pulled down 11 boards. The Privateers were led offensively by Octavia Wilson who had 14 points. Raven Coleman added eight points and six boards in 18 minutes off the bench.

Abilene Christian drained 13 three-pointers on the night. Whitney West had a team-high 18. Renata Marquez added 17 points and Suzzy Dimba poured in 13. Lizzy Dimba fell just shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 boards. The Wildcats shot 55.2 percent (32-of-58) from the field on the night.

The Privateers will look to Saturday for their first win of the season as they take on Incarnate Word. Tip is scheduled for 11 a.m.
